ADOL: Adolescence Directory On-Line

A guide to information about the social and emotional development of adolescents, this site was developed by the Center for Adolescent Studies at Indiana University for parents and professionals.   It also features a teen section, "Teens Only!" which includes resources such as teen "zines," help with homework, sports information, penpals, and games.

CYFERNet

The Children, Youth, and Family consortium Research Network and USDA's Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service sponsor this site.   It provides practical research-based information in areas such as health, childcare, family, science, and technology.

Kids Health

This site was developed to help parents find reliable children's health information.   Topics include nutrition, baby's development, pediatric news, safety and accident prevention, and childhood infections.

National Institute of Mental Health

Provides resarch-based articles and practical information on autism, depression, eating disorders and many other topics.

National Mental Health Information Center

Presents research-based and practical information on mental health topics.   The site offers an extensive section on children's mental health, including a summary of the frequency and causes of mental health problems and warning signs, types of services avaiilable, and how to find help.

Zero to Three

This national organization focuses on infants, toddlers, and their families.   It offers technical assistance to communities, states and the federal government.   The site provides information that the organization gathers and disseminates through its publications.

Forum on Child and Family Statistics

The Forum is a working group of Federal agencies that collect, analyze, and report data on issues related to children and families.   It's website offers easy access to statistics and reports on children and families, including: population and family characteristics, economic security, health, behavior and social environment, and education.

National Black Child Development Institute

Resources for improving the quality of life for African American children through public education programs.

Parents and Children Together Online

This online magazine promotes family literacy by bringing parents and children together through reading.   It offers original stories and articles for children.   A special section for parents features articles on issues related to children's reading and writing and book reviews of recent children's literature.

U.S. Department of Education

A comprehensive website for anyone with a stake in education - parents, teachers, students, researchers, policy makers, and others.   It features educational news, research and statistics, financial aid information, announcements, press releases, and links to other education resources.

Child Welfare Information Gateway

This website provides access to information and resources to help protect children and strengthen families.

Educarer World of Infants

A resource for parents and those who work with infants and toddlers, offering advice on sensitive caregiving, practical information on health and safety, and book reviews.

Facts for Families

At this site, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry provides current information on isses that affect teenagers and their families.   Fact sheets address issues concerning teenagers such as coping with life, depression, sleep distrubances, drug involvement, and relations with family and friends.

National Child Care Information Center (NCCIC)

Information about a variety of topics related to childcare and development is available at this site.   It provides links to the Child Care Bulletin, which can be read online.

National Council on Family Relations

Home page of the NCFR leads you to articles, research, and many other resources on issues in family relations such as stepfamilies, divorce, and grandparenting.

National Network for Child Care

A comprehensive resource for information about children and child care, including links to related sites and organizations, assistance from specialists in child development and state-by-state information.

Parents. The Anti-Drug

This website was created by the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign.   It provides parenting advice and suggests parenting skills to help parents raise drug-free children.

Association for Psychological Science

This professional organization promotes scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, and teaching.   It publishes four journals: Psychological Science offers original research articles spanning scientific psychology's subdisciplines; Current Directions in Psychological Science presents concise reviews; Psychological Science in the Public Interest provides critical assessments of topics such as the influence of media violence on youth and child custody evaluations; and Perspectives on Psychological Science presents comprehensive and integrative articles, broad integrative reviews, overviews of research programs, meta-analytic reviews, and other articles of interest.

Society for Research in Child Development

The Society, with members from over 50 countries, promotes multidisciplinary research in the field of human development and encourages applications of research findings.   Its bi-monthly journal, Child Development, publishes original research relevant to development from the prenatal period through adolescence.   It is a major source of information for researchers and theoreticians, as well as child psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, early childhood education specialists, educational psychologists, special education teachers, and other researchers in the field.

APA Help Center

Offers articles on family and relationships, the mind-body connection, the uses of therapy, and psychology in daily life.   Recent topics include: dealing with natural disasters, warning signs of youth violence, painful shyness, resilient teens, single parenting, interventions that help stepfamilies, and sports and children.

APA Journals

Browse through the journals published by the APA and read abstracts of articles in current issues.   Developmental Psychology publishes research specific to child and adolescent development.   Relevant research can also be found in journals such as Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Experimental Psychology, Journal of Family Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Psychological Bulletin.

PsycPORT

Provides psychological and mental health information and resources on the web.   It also delivers the latest daily news in psychology from more than 50 information sources.
